Too Much Choice

At a Parisien bistro my daughter was absorbed in the lengthy menu. I loved how she was framed by the shelves and shapes of the bar behind her. It was dark moody lighting, and maybe that is why when I came to paint the moment I decided to paint the canvas black first. As with so much of what I do that was not a considered choice. I just did it instinctively – always wanting to explore something new. And when I made the first passage of that turquoise green of her cardi it was a real thrill to see it pop off the black ground.
